“Bring a brick, and together we’ll build a cathedral.”

I’m sure you’ve heard that improv saying.  It means that if you bring one simple piece of information and I bring one piece of information, collaboratively we could build something more complex and beautiful than any one builder could have done. I agree with this for the most part. But how do you make sure that by bringing a bunch of bricks we don’t just make a pile of bricks? Every time you perform, just a pile?

This workshop will go over the scaffolding needed to turn random contributions into cohesive works of story – effortlessly! And without sacrificing Flow or being in the moment. We will learn to serve the scene at hand, not the clever idea. We’ll do this by learning improv mechanisms, different edits, pattern, long form structure and putting humans on stage – not actors.

Improv is not just “anything goes!” It’s a language we use to collaborate in the moment. We’ll learn about the grammar that builds that language. The scaffolding to build cathedrals, rather than just tossing another brick on the pile.
